Here now and now here or nowhere

The title of this blog comes from a play on words that "now here" is also the same letters as "nowhere" just with a space added in the middle. I am always trying to get better at being in the here and now, and I've always been a bit of a joker so that is why I chose this name.

The Blue Lagoon - Vang Vieng

About 7km from Vang Vieng is Phu Kham Cave. The drive to the cave is a picturesque ride through karst landscapes. Outside the cave there is a wonderful clear stream, called "Blue Lagoon" by the locals and tourists. It's a nice place to relax, swim and play on a rope swing. The waters are inhabited with a few hundred carp fish that will eat locally sold fish food out of your hand. The cave above requires a modest 100 m hike up a makeshift bamboo ladder. Once inside, there is a short walk to the Sleeping Golden Buddha, a Thai reclining Buddha. From there deeper galleries go off from the main chamber inside the cave, but it is hard to follow them because there is no light, so it's a good thing we brought our own. Even with them, there were times when it was too dark to see much. The cave is fun and nice, but it's the lagoon that is the most fun. It's a welcome relaxation from the drunken debauchery that is going around inside the town of Vang Vieng.
